On February 23, 2013 I will be leading a workshop with Shanifa Nasser at Toronto’s Open Data Day. Open Data Day Toronto is being held at the Center for Social Innovation (The Annex location) and registration is free. Our workshop will provide an introductory lesson on collecting Twitter data using Google docs and the Twitter API.
Our workshop will make use of Martin Hawksey’s (aka @mhawksey) Google DocsTwitter Archiving Google Spreadsheet TAGS v5. Martin Hawksey is an open education developer. His scripts for Google docs are highly accessible for open data newbies and during the workshop we will work together to complete the basic setup of a Google Doc to collect Twitter data.
Please note that we recommend you set up a Google and Twitter account for test purposes for this workshop. If you do not wish to set up accounts, you can still follow along on the big screen!
The instructions for our workshop are available through Google Docs (#ODDTO2013 Instructions for Archiving Twitter). Please note that adapted the instructions by Stacy Blasiola as well as information on Martin Hawksey’s site.
If you are interested in Open Data Day but cannot attend, you can check out the wiki for the event.
